How we chose these 16
On 1 October 2026 we ran 8 Amazon.in searches (548 unique listings) and kept countertop microwaves for 230 V Indian mains, rated 4.0 or higher on at least 150 ratings, in stock, with a price. We ranked by review count within each price band and type, at most two per brand, then checked each against its maker. Result: up to ₹10,000, 8 models (all 5 solo, all 3 grill); ₹10,000 to ₹15,000, 5; above ₹15,000, 3. The ranking reflects ratings, not sales. Dropping the 3 proven-pooled counts would leave 13 models. Method: how we research.
Magnetron warranty: what each maker actually writes
| Maker | What the maker’s terms say | Models in our set | Label |
|---|---|---|---|
| IFB | 1 year comprehensive plus 3 years on magnetron and cavity | All 3 IFB models | Separate term |
| Panasonic | “Warranty on Magnetron: 5 years” | Both Panasonic convection models | Separate term |
| Sharp | “1 Year (Magnetron 3 Year)” | The Sharp grill | Separate term |
| Panasonic | “Warranty on Magnetron: 1 years” | The Panasonic grill | Equal to product warranty |
| Panasonic | Store lists only “Warranty on Product 1 Year” | Both Panasonic solo models | Equal to product warranty (per the Amazon listing) |
| LG | Product 1 year; component warranty for the charcoal heater only | All 5 LG models | No term in maker’s terms |
| Sharp | “1 Year” | The Sharp solo | No term in maker’s terms |
| Samsung | “12 Months” | The Samsung | No term in maker’s terms |
Tally across the 16: separate term 6, equal to product warranty 3, no term in the maker’s terms 7.
LG, precisely. LG’s published warranty terms list no separate magnetron term. An undated LG magazine article says LG microwaves come with “additional warranty on magnetron”, but it states no length and names no model, so LG’s warranty terms win. The 10-year term on the LG MJ2887BIUM 28L Charcoal Convection “covers Charcoal Lighting Heater only”, and the terms list the magnetron among the parts it does not cover.
Samsung’s cavity. Amazon’s listing states a 10-year cavity warranty; Samsung’s own pages do not mention it. Unconfirmed by Samsung, not contradicted.
Where the Amazon listing disagrees with the maker: 8 spec cells
Where maker and Amazon disagreed, we used the maker’s figure.

| LG MC3286BRUM 32L Convection (rotisserie) | Convection 2,400 W | 2,450 W |
| LG MS2043BP 20L Solo | 44 auto-cook menus | 45 |
| LG MJ2887BIUM 28L Charcoal Convection | 301 auto-cook menus | 271 |
| Panasonic NN-SM25JBFDG 20L Solo (mechanical knob) | “Auto Cook” feature | No auto-cook menu |
| Panasonic NN-GT221WFDG 20L Grill | “Wattage” field: 1,000 W | 800 W microwave output |
| Sharp R-625KN-K 25L Grill (Hikari-G25) | 1,000 W | 900 W microwave (1,000 W is the grill) |

Read the fine print: LG MJ2887BIUM

Criterion: the only charcoal model among the 16, and the one pick whose rating is proven pooled.
Its 4.2★ across 611 ratings (October 2026) is pooled: the identical 611 appears on two LG Convertible air-fry models. LG lists 271 auto-cook menus; the Amazon title says 301. Its 10-year term covers the charcoal heater, not the magnetron. LG says its Diet Fry uses up to 88% less oil than deep frying, citing “internal test reports”; it is not an air-fry mode. Amazon price about ₹17,700 on 1 October 2026.

Utensils: the makers disagree
Three manuals forbid metal in microwave mode (arcing) and allow metal racks in grill and convection: Samsung’s for the Samsung MC28A5013AK/TL 28L Convection, LG’s for the MC2846BG (colour variant of the LG MC2846BV 28L Convection) and IFB’s for the 20SC2 (not in our set).
Panasonic’s store says otherwise on its two convection pages, the Panasonic NN-CT353BFDG 23L Convection and Panasonic NN-CT645BFDG 27L Convection: “Oven Safe Utensils, stainless steel, glass, ceramic, aluminuim etc can be used in Microwave Ovens” [sic]. No mode is named. Its solo and grill pages say “Microwave safe utensils, glass/ceramic, food grade plastic”. We read no Panasonic manual, so we cannot say which mode the convection line means. Follow your own model’s manual. More in how to use a microwave oven.
How to choose: capacity for your household
| Source | Guidance |
|---|---|
| LG size guide (15 September 2026) | Family of four: 25 to 32 litres |
| LG family guide (24 August 2026) | Family of 2: 20 L; family of 4: 28 to 30 L; large families: 32 L |
| Samsung buying guide | Domestic ovens “around 20-35 liters”; no per-person figure |
| Panasonic store pages | 20 L and 23 L models: 2 to 4 people (one 20 L page also says 2 to 3); 27 L: 3 to 4 |
LG’s two guides disagree on a family of four, so we show both. Of our 16, 6 are 20 L and 5 are 28 L or larger.
Who should NOT buy
- Anyone wanting to bake or roast in a solo or grill model. LG’s FAQ: “Solo microwaves do not brown or crisp food surfaces”. LG’s family guide puts “Baking, roasting, and all-round cooking” under convection.
- Anyone expecting separate magnetron cover on the 5 LG models, the Sharp R-220KN-K 20L Solo (Sakura-S20) or the Samsung. LG’s published warranty terms list no separate magnetron term; Sharp’s and Samsung’s terms carry none for these two models.
- Air-fry seekers. None of the 16 claims an air-fry mode on its maker page.
What we could not verify
We searched maker pages, Panasonic’s store and the Amazon listings and found no published figure for: microwave input on 4 of the 5 LG models and both Sharps; grill wattage on IFB’s 30-litre model; a convection temperature range on 6 of the 8 convection models; a BEE star label or yearly kWh for any of the 16. Sharp’s site shows no prices or country of origin. We read a maker manual for one of the 16, Samsung’s, and hold no failure or repair data for any brand.
FAQs
Which brand is best for microwaves?
We hold no reliability data, so by criterion, within our 16: Panasonic publishes the longest magnetron term (5 years, on its two convection models); IFB states 3 years on magnetron and cavity for all three of its models; LG’s four convection models list the most auto-cook menus (151 to 301).
What is better, a microwave or a convection microwave?
It depends on the job. LG’s family guide calls solo “Reheating and basic cooking only”. LG’s FAQ says a convection model can cook everything a solo or grill can, “plus cakes, cookies, bread, roasted meats, brownies, and baked dishes”. See convection vs solo microwave.
What is the best microwave under ₹9000?
Seven of our 16 cost under ₹9,000 on 1 October 2026: all 5 solo models plus the Panasonic and Sharp grills. By criterion, the IFB 24PM2S 24L Solo for its 3-year magnetron term and 900 W, or the Panasonic NN-ST26JMFDG 20L Solo for the deepest standalone review count.
What foods cannot be cooked in a microwave?
We found no maker “foods not to cook” list in the sources we read. LG’s family guide says “Don’t heat sealed containers or whole eggs”, and its FAQ says solo microwaves “do not brown or crisp food surfaces”.
What is the disadvantage of a convection microwave oven?
LG’s FAQ says capacity “is typically smaller” than a full-size oven’s. Samsung’s MC28A5013AK manual says that in convection mode “The microwave mode is not used.” Convection elements draw 1,860 to 2,450 W on 7 of our 8 convection models, and convection models cost about ₹11,800 to ₹18,700 on 1 October 2026, against ₹6,300 to ₹8,500 for solo.
Is it healthy to cook in a microwave?
The maker documents we read make no health claim either way, so we give no verdict. They do publish usage lines: LG’s family guide says “Use microwave-safe glass, ceramic, or plastic containers”; Samsung’s MC28A5013AK manual says “Do not use Melamine plastic.”
Conclusion
IFB 24PM2S 24L Solo for solo, IFB 20PG4S 20L Grill for grill, Panasonic NN-ST26JMFDG 20L Solo up to ₹9,000, Panasonic NN-CT645BFDG 27L Convection at ₹10,000 to ₹15,000, IFB 30BRC2 30L Convection (rotisserie) above ₹15,000. Before paying, check the magnetron term and whether the count is pooled. Once it arrives, see how to clean a microwave.
